Jacob Needs a Hero

JACOB NEEDS A HERO

Jacob is a 2 1/2 year old lab mix who is great with people of all ages. He needs a home where he can be the only dog. Here is his story…

Once there was a litter of four puppies who were born to a pitiful dog who lived in the country. They had a mean and cruel owner who had in the past used unwanted puppies for target practice and this was his plan for Jacob and his litter mates too.  Fortunately, a neighbor was aware of this situation and removed the puppies from the home and brought them to Take Me Home Pet Rescue. The pups were only 8 weeks old when we took them in.

Bella, Edward, Jacob and Emmett (yes, the litter was named after characters in the book series and movie”Twilight”) were quickly placed in to foster homes and later adopted. Here is a cute picture of  Jacob and Emmett who were at first fostered together.  Notice Jacob has a distinctive crescent moon shape on his chest.

All of the dogs grew into beautiful large well behaved family pets. Jacob’s foster family consisted of two young teenagers, a young Great Dane, an old chihuahua, and a pit bull who all became fast friends with Jacob. Jacob was the last to be adopted and was almost a year old when he went to who we thought would be his forever family.

Jacob loved his foster brother!
Finally, almost a year ago to the day, the moment Jacob had been waiting for all his life arrived and he was adopted by a nice family with another male dog.  The new found brothers played together very well for a full year until one day Jacob’s veterinarian suggested he lose some weight and he was put on a diet. We think this triggered an concern with food and he became aggressive towards the other dog in the home so Jacob was returned to TMHPR.   Because he now has some issues with food if another dog is close by, we are looking for a new home where Jacob can be the king of his domain and have his humans to himself.
Sadly, Jacob has been living in a kennel at the TMHPR Adoption Center now for almost a month and has become very depressed. He is such a good boy. He walks well on his leash, is house and crate trained. He is great with men, women, and children.  The TMHPR volunteers work around the clock to get him exercise, love and play time but its just not enough. Sometimes he gets to help pick a volunteer’s kids up from school. He loves riding in the car!

The volunteers walk Jacob during the day in a large grassy area behind the Adoption Center. He loves playing in the rain water and sniffing all the bushes, trees and grass.

But most days you can find Jacob in his kennel hoping that his next walk or play time is coming soon or that he will get to go for a ride and spend time with the kids after school.
Jacob is a such a wonderful dog with the sweetest and most laid back disposition.  Did we mention he is house, crate, leash, and simple command trained? And he loves people! He has also  grown out of the puppy stage which means no chewing.. He is a 90 pound 2 1/2 year old couch potato who will be happiest in a home where he can be the only dog.  Jacob needs a foster or an adopter. Jacob needs a hero.
